PLACES TO VISIT IN OXFORD NEAR THE OLD PARSONAGE HOTEL
The City of Oxford, situated on the River Thames fifty miles from London, is famed for its magnificent University seat, buildings, museums and as home to many literary giants. As well as olde world charm Oxford has chic shops, bars, art galleries and a varied and vibrant restaurant scene.
Walk out the heavy oak door of the wisteria clad 17th century hotel and you are in the heart of Oxford and in the grounds of St Giles’ Church. St John’s, Keble and Somerville are just a few of the colleges that surround the hotel. St Catherine’s, Oxford’s youngest college, is worth a visit. The mid-20th century buildings with contemporary gardens and quadrangle were designed by Arne Jacobsen. St Catherine’s is truly remarkable for its unity of landscape and architecture.
Many of the best places to visit in Oxford are nearby, such as the Natural History, Pitt Rivers and Ashmolean museums. Punt and picnic on the Cherwell, wander into Jericho and Little Clarendon Street where you will find cafes and bars with lots of character, or simply take a stroll in the meadows and riverside walks that surround our charming country house hotel in the heart of the city.
